These colors are on-screen approximations drawn by this tool, not photographs of the product. Real shingles use blended granules that no screen reproduces exactly. Before you commit to a color, ask us to lay out five or six full-size shingles on site — that is what both GAF and Malarkey recommend, and we will bring them.

What this tool can and can’t tell you
- How accurate are these colors?
- Treat them as a family, not a match. This tool draws a shingle pattern and tints it, so it will show you whether you are in grey, brown, or green territory — but it cannot reproduce the blended granule color of a real shingle, and every screen renders color differently. Both GAF and Malarkey say the same thing about their own product photography, which is why both recommend laying out five or six full-size shingles before you decide. We will bring them.
- Can I see a color on my actual house?
- Yes. Choose 'Use my own photo' and pick any photo of your home, then drag the four corners onto one roof slope. Your photo is drawn straight to the canvas in your browser and never leaves your device unless you choose to send us the mockup.
- Why are there only GAF colors listed?
- Because those are the ones we can state accurately today. We install both GAF and Malarkey — we've been GAF Master Elite and Malarkey Emerald certified since 2016 — but Malarkey's color availability varies by region and isn't published in a form we can reliably read, so rather than guess we've linked directly to Malarkey's own Roof Designer. Ask us and we'll tell you exactly which Malarkey colors we stock for the North Bay.
- Does the color I choose change the price?
- Barely, and not in a way worth choosing a color around. Within a shingle line the colors cost the same; moving between product lines or to a different material is what actually moves a number. One thing worth knowing: on low-slope sections, California's Title 24 energy code sets reflectance requirements that can rule some colors in or out, and we'll flag that when we scope your roof.
- Does a lighter roof keep the house cooler?
- A more reflective roof absorbs less heat, and that effect is real — it's the basis of the Title 24 cool-roof rules. How much difference you actually feel indoors depends far more on your attic ventilation and insulation than on shingle color, and those are things we can assess and fix. If cooling is your goal, ask us about the whole assembly rather than picking the palest shingle.
